HC Deb 22 February 1938 vol 332 cc160-1
6. Mr. Shinwell

asked the Secretary for Mines whether the catalogue of abandoned mines in the possession of the Mines Department can be made available to local authorities and other interested parties concerned with the effect of subsidence?

Captain Crookshank

The five volumes comprising the catalogue and the annual supplements thereto are on sale throughout the country and are thus readily available to all interested parties.

Mr. Shinwell

Do I understand that the complete record in the possession of the Department can be made available to interested parties?

Captain Crookshank

The hon. Gentleman must not confuse the catalogue with the plans of the mines. The question I was asked refers to the catalogue.

Mr. Shinwell

Do I understand that both of those, which are of interest to owners of property and to local authorities, will be made available?

Captain Crookshank

If the hon. Gentleman is talking about the actual plans, he is no doubt aware that though these are in the possession of the Mines Department they are not available until the expiry of 10 years.
