asked the Minister of Labour how many persons are registered as unemployed in the Thorne area and how many are in receipt of unemployment assistance; and what percentage of the total insured population these combined figures represent?

At 13th December, 1937, the number of unemployed persons, aged 14 and over, on the registers of the Thorne Employment Exchange, was 1,388, including 801 persons with applications authorised for payment of unemployment assistance allowances. The percentage unemployed among insured persons, aged 16–64 (exclusive of persons within the agricultural scheme), was 16.9.
