HC Deb 03 February 1938 vol 331 cc368-9
33. Mr. Denville

asked the Home Secretary whether his attention has been called to the increased tendency to provide variety entertainments in licensed premises and the conditions governing the grant of music and dancing licences to such premises; and whether he is satisfied that local authorities take adequate steps to ensure that proper arrangements are made in such cases for the safety of those concerned as in the case of theatres possessing similar licences?

Sir S. Hoare

My attention has not previously been drawn to this matter, and I have no information to suggest that in the exercise of the powers conferred on them in regard to the issue of licences for music and dancing, the local authorities have failed to have due regard to the safety of the public. If my hon. Friend would send me any information which he has in his possession, I should be glad to consider it.
