HC Deb 03 February 1938 vol 331 cc376-7
59. Mr. W. Whiteley

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education what is the area of the land which the Flintshire education authority proposes to acquire for the extension of the Rhyl County School and also as a site for the junior and infant school; whether the education authority has had to seek compulsory powers of purchase; whether arbitration has taken place and, if so, what was the price awarded; and what has been the assessment of this land for rating purposes?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education (Mr. Kenneth Lindsay)

The local education authority are proposing to acquire a site of approximately six acres for the extension of the playing fields of the Rhyl County School. An order for compulsory purchase has been obtained, but the board understand that agreement has since been reached with the owner for the sale of the land at a price to be fixed by arbitration. Arbitration has not yet taken place. An order for compulsory purchase was also obtained for the acquisition of a site for a junior and infant school, but the authority have now decided to purchase another site which will provide not only for the school, but also for a playing field for the senior pupils from another school. I understand that neither site has been assessed for rating purposes.
