HC Deb 22 December 1938 vol 342 c3098
73. Mr. David Adams

asked the Minister of Transport whether he has a statement to make as to the withdrawal of many trains by the London and North Eastern Railway Company this month upon grounds of economy; and whether, in view of the statutory obligations of the railway companies, he is satisfied that the public interest is, in this matter, being fully safeguarded?

The Minister of Transport (Mr. Burgin)

The company inform me that the withdrawal of certain trains resulted from a review of passenger train carryings, and assure me that every care was taken to see that as little inconvenience as possible was caused to the public. I have no reason to think that, in consequence of the withdrawal of these trains, the transport facilities available to the public will be inadequate.

Mr. Adams

Has the Minister had complaints from any local authorities regarding these withdrawals?

Mr. Burgin

Not that I am aware of.
