HC Deb 19 December 1938 vol 342 cc2478-9
80. Mr. Bellenger

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he has now received a Report from the Fleming Committee on the sugar beet claim against Oxford University; and what action he proposes to take?

Mr. Morrison

The report has not yet been received, and the second part of the question does not, therefore, arise.

Mr. Bellenger

Does the right hon. Gentleman remember that a month ago, in answering a somewhat similar question, he said that he anticipated that he would receive the report the next week, and may I ask what is the reason for the delay?

Mr. Morrison

I cannot say what is the reason for the delay. Proceedings are entirely in the hands of the Committee, and I do not think it would be proper to hurry them unduly in their investigation of such a complicated subject arising out of events which took place so long ago.

Mr. Ede

Are the investigations still going on, or are the Committee deliberating on their report?

Mr. Morrison

I think they are deliberating on their report.
