HC Deb 19 December 1938 vol 342 cc2477-8
77. Sir M. Barclay-Harvey

asked the Minister of Agriculture when he expects to be in a position to announce the result of the review of the degree of assistance afforded to oats?

79. Sir R. W. Smith

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he can yet make any further statement regarding the intention of the Government to review the degree of assistance afforded to oats under the Agriculture Act, 1937; and, in particular, whether he will give an assurance that it is his intention to review the position of the oat growers of the country in light of the unprecedentedly low prices they have been receiving for their crops for some years?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I cannot say at present when I shall be in a position to announce the result of the review of the degree of assistance afforded to oats and feeding barley, but an announcement will not be practicable before the House adjourns for the Christmas Recess. In connection with this review, the considerations advanced in the last part of the question by my hon. Friend the Member for Central Aberdeen (Sir R. W. Smith) will be fully borne in mind.
