HC Deb 19 December 1938 vol 342 c2458
37. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Prime Minister whether he has now secured information from the French Government respecting the arrest and deportation of two Indian journalists; and whether he will make a statement on the matter?

Mr. Butler

My Noble Friend has not yet received a report from His Majesty's Ambassador in Paris, who has been requested to treat this question as one of immediate importance.

Mr. Sorensen

Will the hon. Gentleman expedite a reply; and is he aware that another Indian journalist has been deported in similar circumstances?

Mr. Butler

I will certainly do my best to expedite a reply, and will consider any further facts which the hon. Gentleman brings to my notice.

Mr. Sorensen

Can the hon. Gentleman say whether the reply can be secured before the Christmas Recess?

Mr. Butler

I can give no undertaking.
