§ 40. Mr. Bennasked the Prime Minister whether the existing British guarantee to Czechoslovakia includes military assistance; when its precise nature and terms will be known; and when Parliament is to be asked to give its assent to this obligation?
§ The Prime MinisterI am not yet in a position to add anything to my reply to the right hon. Gentleman on 12th December.
§ 52. Mr. Noel-Bakerasked the Prime Minister whether it is the intention of the Governments represented at the Munich Conference to draw up an international treaty laying down the new frontiers of Czechoslovakia, embodying guarantees of the integrity of those frontiers by Great Britain and other Powers, and defining the obligations of the German Reich, as successors to the Czechoslovakian Government, Poland, and Hungary, in the ceded territories?
§ The Prime MinisterThe new frontiers of Czechoslovakia have already been laid down by agreement between the Czechoslovak Government and each of the other 2460 three interested Governments, and, so far as the Agreement between Germany and Czechoslovakia is concerned, this was confirmed by a Protocol signed by the members of the International Commission on 21st November last. In these circumstances the question of the conclusion of a further international instrument regarding these frontiers does not appear to arise. As regards the question of the guarantee, I am not yet in a position to add anything to recent statements. All other questions arising out of the transfer of the ceded territories fall in the first instance to be discussed between the Czechoslovak Government and the Governments of Germany, Poland, and Hungary respectively.
