HC Deb 15 December 1938 vol 342 cc2150-1
18. Mr. T. Smith

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that at the Exeter Employment Exchange persons have to stand outside in all weathers while waiting for their unemployment benefit, with the result that cases of illness have occurred; and whether immediate steps can be taken to provide shelter?

Mr. E. Brown

I am advised that it is impracticable to provide a shelter at this building, which abuts directly on to the public pavement. There should be no need for applicants to wait any length of time provided they adhere to the timing system.
