HC Deb 15 December 1938 vol 342 c2152
26. Mr. Buchanan

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the hardship which many unemployed persons suffer through not being able to claim unemployment pay for a housekeeper unless the claimant has children residing in the same household; and whether it is his intention to take any action on this matter?

Mr. E. Brown

The hon. Member is, I think, aware of the difficulty there would be in proposing any change in the existing law on this subject without inviting demands for an unjustifiable extension; and all I can say at present is that I will give the matter my consideration.
