§ 13. Lieut.-Commander Fletcherasked the Prime Minister whether he can now make a statement concerning a protest made by His Majesty's Consul-General at Frankfurt-on-Main against German posters maligning the British troops in Palestine?
§ Mr. ButlerYes, Sir. A report received from His Majesty's Consul-General makes it clear that accounts 1972 which appeared in the Press were based on a misunderstanding. Mr. Smallbones made no official protest but, in expressing to the military commandant of Frankfurt his regret that his engagements prevented him from accepting an invitation addressed to him, he drew the latter's attention to these posters and said that he thought their exhibition regrettable.
§ Lieut.-Commander FletcherHas an expression of approval been conveyed to Mr. Smallbones for his very proper conduct in this matter?
§ Mr. ButlerMr. Smallbones is one of our most respected officials, and I am sure he will realise that his action had the approval of His Majesty's Government.
§ Mr. ManderHave the posters been withdrawn?
