HC Deb 12 December 1938 vol 342 c1585
22. Lieut.-Commander Fletcher

asked the Prime Minister if he has any statement to make concerning the action taken by the British Consul-General in Frankfurt-on-Main in protest against posters reflecting upon the conduct of British troops in Palestine?

Mr. Butler

No, Sir. If there is any truth in the Press reports on this subject, His Majesty's Consul-General will,[...] doubt, report the circumstances in due course.

Lieut.-Commander Fletcher

Will the Government call upon the Consul-General for a report on this subject?

Mr. Butler

Yes, Sir; we should be ready to ask the Consul-General for a report.

Lieut.-Commander Fletcher

Were the Government concerned in any way in the action taken by the Exchange Telegraph Company in asking the editors of certain papers not to publish this news?

Mr. Butler

That is the first I have heard of it.
