§ 19. Brigadier-General Spearsasked the Prime Minister to what extent the new decrees concerning Jewish property in Germany affect British Jews; and whether he will consider compensating these British subjects for losses they may incur out of German-owned property in this country?
§ The Prime MinisterMy Noble Friend has not yet received full details of these decrees. He understands, however, that certain sections of the order of the German Minister of Economics of 3rd December regarding Jewish property apply to Jews of foreign as well as German nationality. As I informed the hon. Member for Derby (Mr. Noel-Baker) on 14th November, His 1585 Majesty's Charge d'Affaires in Berlin, at the time of the recent anti-Jewish disorders, drew the attention of the German Government to the rights of British subjects in Germany. His Majesty's Government intend to do all in their power to protect the interests of all British subjects in that country, irrespective of their race, religion or place of residence, and His Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires is now being instructed, in view of the latest developments, to seek assurances regarding the treatment of British subjects of Jewish race. In the circumstances, the second part of the question does not arise.
