HC Deb 12 December 1938 vol 342 cc1609-10
70. Mr. Wakefield

asked the Postmaster-General whether he will increase the proportion of revenue from wireless licences allotted to the British Broadcasting Corporation so as to enable them to start transmitting programmes at an hour early enough to enable early morning physical fitness broadcasts to be given?

Major Tryon

In accordance with the terms of the licence of the British Broadcasting Corporation, it rests with the Governors to initiate any application for an increase in the Corporation's percentage of the wireless licence revenue. It would be for the Governors to consider whether, having regard to the Corporation's other liabilities, such an application would be justified for the purposes suggested.
