HC Deb 08 December 1938 vol 342 cc1344-5
34. Mr. Thorne

asked the Home Secretary how many cases of slashing attacks from the various parts of the country have been reported to the Home Office within the last few weeks; how many of these were found to be self-inflicted; and whether any arrests have been made?

Mr. Lloyd

There is no duty on the police to report all such cases to the Home Office, and my information is not complete. I understand two people have been charged with causing public mischief by making false statements as regard injuries which had been self-inflicted. Other cases are under investigation, and at the present stage it is not possible to say how many genuine attacks there have been.

Mr. Logan

Has there been any complaints about the slashing attacks upon the Government's policy that have been made from the Opposition Benches?
