HC Deb 06 December 1938 vol 342 cc999-1000
61. Mr. Leach

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is prepared to take steps to prevent stock exchange committees from refusing membership to applicants whose qualifications and bona fides are not in question?

Mr. Stanley

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given to him on 16th June, 1937, to which I have nothing to add.

Mr. Leach

Does the right hon. Gentleman realise that his Department some little time ago issued a warning to all would-be investors not to deal with persons who were not associated with some recognised stock exchange; and, if that be so, how can a bona fide broker deal at all?

Mr. Stanley

I think that, if the hon. Gentleman will study the Bill which we are now discussing in Committee, he will see how that is provided for.

Mr. Leach

Can the right hon. Gentleman give an undertaking that he will accept an Amendment to carry out what is suggested in the question?
