22. Mr. Jenkinsasked the Secretary for Mines on what date the report of the Royal Commission on Safety in Mines will be published?
§ Captain CrookshankI understand that the report has already been signed and submitted to His Majesty. I cannot at present state the precise date of publica- 979 tion, but I hope that copies will be available for hon. Members in about a fortnight's time.
I should like on behalf of His Majesty's Government to express our appreciation of the work done by Lord Rockley and his colleagues in carrying out their arduous and important duties during the past three years.
§ Mr. James GriffithsIs it intended to introduce legislation during this Session embodying any recommendations that the Commission may make.
§ Captain CrookshankI cannot go as far as that, because I have not seen the report yet.
Mr. JenkinsAs there is to be a Debate on this matter in two weeks' time, would it not be possible to have the report published some days earlier?
§ Captain CrookshankI did not know there was to be a Debate in two weeks' time. The publication of the report does not depend on me, but how long the printing will take by the Stationery Office.
Mr. JenkinsWill the hon. and gallant Gentleman do what he can to expedite the publication of the report so that Members can have it before the Debate takes place?
§ Captain CrookshankAs far as I can see, it will take at least a fortnight before it can be produced.
