§ 49. Mr. R. Gibson(for Mr. Parker) asked the Minister of Health whether he gave his sanction to the Essex County Council for borrowing powers to acquire a site for a hospital in Dagenham, proposed to be acquired in October, 1935, or whether advice was given to the council to take the case to arbitration and, if so, why; and whether he will state the area of this site, the previous rateable value, and the price fixed for it, whether at arbitration or by agreement?
§ Sir K. WoodI confirmed a compulsory purchase order in respect of the site in question on the date mentioned by the hon. Member and on the advice of the Valuation Office of the Inland Revenue Department I recommended the council to take the matter of the purchase price to arbitration. The area of the site is about 59 acres. I am not aware of the previous rateable value. The price fixed for the site by arbitration was £12,420.
