HC Deb 28 April 1938 vol 335 c283
7. Mr. R. Robinson

asked the Minister of Labour whether he can now make a statement with regard to the report of the Holidays with Pay Committee?

Mr. E. Brown

The report will be published this evening. It will be studied sympathetically, and I propose to make a statement on the subject in due course.

Mr. Robinson

Can my right hon. Friend say whether the report makes adequate provision for the spread-over of holidays?

Mr. Brown

I think my hon. Friend had better read the report. I can assure him that he will find a good deal of material in the report, which is a very comprehensive and valuable one. I should like to express my gratitude and that of the Government to Lord Amulree, the chairman, and the members of the committee for a very fine piece of work, which is unanimous.

Mr. Robinson

Is the report definitely in favour of giving annual holidays with pay?

Mr. Brown

The hon. Gentleman had better read it.

Mr. Thorne

Will the Minister accept the recommendations of the report, or will they have to go before the Cabinet for confirmation?

Mr. Brown

The first thing I have to do is to analyse the distinctions in the report between things which can be done administratively and the things which require legislation, and until I have done that I cannot say anything further.
