HC Deb 11 April 1938 vol 334 c763
58. Mr. T. Smith

(for Mr. Thorne) asked the Home Secretary the cause of the explosion on Wednesday at the soap works, Wide Lane, Morley, Yorkshire, at which five men were injured?

Sir S. Hoare

I have received a preliminary report from which it appears that the explosion was probably due to a mistake in carrying out a process of making bituminous paint, but further inquiries are being made.

Mr. Lunn

Will there be an open inquiry into this explosion?

Sir S. Hoare

A full inquiry is being made on the usual lines.
