HC Deb 11 April 1938 vol 334 cc746-7
32. Major Procter

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will make a statement as to what steps he proposes to take to remedy the hardships and injustices occasioned to producers and producer-retailers by the operation of the Agricultural Marketing Acts under which they are required to appear in London before the respective boards to answer charges of contravening those Acts?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the assurances I gave on this subject during the Debate on the Report stage of the Sea-Fish Industry Bill on 7th April. I am not yet in a position to make any further statement, but I may say that I do not accept the implications in the question.

Major Procter

Will the right hon. Gentleman say what he really means by looking into this question? Is he going to set up a committee? If so, will it be a judicial committee?

Mr. Morrison

What I have in view is an examination of the whole matter, which affects not only one particular scheme but the whole of the schemes that are envisaged.

Major Procter

Will the right hon. Gentleman also consider the bad results arising out of these Socialist measures?

Mr. De la Bère

Why not look into it now?
