HC Deb 04 April 1938 vol 334 c21
40. Mr. De la Bère

asked the Minister of Agriculture what steps the Government are taking to safeguard the production of home-grown food, in view of the retirement of agricultural labourers to other more attractive industries?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I would refer to the reply given to my hon. Friend on 28th October last.

Mr. De la Bère

Is not a bold and farsighted scheme to deal with skilled agricultural labour essential, and if that scheme is not forthcoming will there not be a widespread lack of agricultural skilled labour throughout the country?

Mr. Morrison

I should be glad to consider any scheme which my hon. Friend has in mind.

Mr. De la Bère

Would the Minister consult with me and go into this matter?

Mr. Morrison

I should be delighted to receive any assistance that my hon. Friend can give me.
