HC Deb 04 April 1938 vol 334 cc2-3
2. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he has considered a resolution passed by the North-West Frontier Province Assembly and forwarded by the Government of India declaring that the scheme of Federation is unacceptable; whether he is aware that the Indian National Liberal Federation has reiterated by resolution its considered opinion that the new Constitution is extremely unsatisfactory; and what action he proposes to take respecting these expressions of Indian opinion concerning Federation and the new Constitution?

Lord Stanley

I have not yet seen any resolution on this subject by the Assembly of the North-West Frontier Province, but I am aware from Press reports of the resolution by the Indian National Liberal Federation. My Noble Friend does not feel that these expressions of opinion call for any action on his part.

Mr. Sorensen

Does the Noble Lord take the view that in fact they are assisting the new Constitution?

Sir Nairne Stewart Sandeman

Is it not a fact that the Socialist party voted entirely for this Bill?
