HC Deb 28 October 1937 vol 328 c253
67. Colonel Nathan

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether it is the intention of His Majesty's Government to introduce legislation to give effect to the recommendations of the committee on the consolidation and amendment of the Income Tax Acts?

Sir J. Simon

The recommendations of the Committee are under consideration, but I am not yet able to indicate when it may be possible to introduce legislation.

Colonel Nathan

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether it will be during the current Session of Parliament?

Sir J. Simon

I do not think it will, but I appreciate the importance of the subject. A very great deal of work has been done in connection with it, but, as the hon. and gallant Member knows, it is a very heavy job.
