HC Deb 23 November 1937 vol 329 c1017
23. Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has formed any estimate of the number of persons designated in Clause 19 of the Housing (Agricultural Population) (Scotland) Bill as persons who, in their latest occupation, were engaged in agriculture and of those designated as in their latest occupation engaged in an industry mainly dependent on agriculture?

Mr. Elliot

It is not possible to form any accurate estimate of the number of persons in the classes to which my hon. Friend refers. In the 1931 Census Returns, however, the number of persons of 65 years of age and over who had retired from agricultural occupations was 9,314.
