HC Deb 22 November 1937 vol 329 c827
4. Sir Nairne Stewart Sandeman

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether the Government of India have accepted the proposal of the Wedgwood Committee to raise the amount in the Indian State railways depreciation reserve fund to a minimum of £22,500,000?

Lord Stanley

The recommendations of the Wedgwood Committee, including the opinion expressed as to the size of the depreciation fund, are at present under the consideration of the Government of India.

Sir N. Stewart Sandeman

Is the hon. Gentleman not aware that the depreciation fund has been very much depleted, because of losses in the past, and that, in order to keep up the rolling stock and the railways, it is almost essential to get this fund brought back to a normal figure?

Lord Stanley

This is one of the subjects now being considered by the Government.
