7. Vice-Admiral Taylorasked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether it is proposed to reconsider the reduction of pensions of military officers made in 1935, on account of the decreased cost of living in the year, in view of the subsequent increased cost of living?
Lord StanleyNo special reduction was made in 1935. These pensions were subject to periodic variation on account of 829 changes in the cost of living from 1919 to 1935. In the latter year they were consolidated in conformity with the general principle that was applied at the same time throughout the Services. Any question of departing from that principle would thus raise larger issues than concern the Indian Army alone.
