§ 12. Mr. Lyonsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs the number of 517 officials, including police and customs officers, employed in the international zone at Tangier; and the numbers of British, French, Spanish, and Italian subjects so employed, respectively?
§ Mr. EdenIn 1935 there were 537 officials in the Tangier Administration, of which eight were British, 89 French, 91 Spanish and 17 Italian. I have no reason to suppose that there has since been any appreciable change.
§ 13. Mr. Lyonsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what financial contribution is made by Tangier to the Tangier-Fez Railway; and what proportion this bears to the aggregate contributions made?
§ Mr. EdenThe Tangier Budget provides for a charge of 1,225,000 francs in respect of the Tangier-Fez Railway. I regret that I am unable at present to answer the second part of the question. I will, however, endeavour to obtain the information required for my hon. Friend.
§ 14. Mr. Lyonsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether there is an airport in the international zone at Tangier; and, if so, under what control it is?
§ Mr. EdenThere is an aerodrome in the Tangier zone which is under the operational control of Compagnie Air France. By the terms of the Tangier Statute civil aerodromes in the zone are subject to inspection by officers of the contracting Governments and all civil or commercial aviation to, from or within the zone is subject to the rules and provisions of the International Air Navigation Convention.
