asked the Minister of Agriculture the total amount paid by agricultural employes and employers as insurance Contributions since the inception of the scheme, the total cost of administration, and the amount paid out to unemployed agricultural workers?

I have been asked to take this question and, as the reply involves a table of figures, I will, if I may, circulate it in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

Following is the reply;

Up to 30th October, 1937, the approximate contribution income and expenditure of the Agricultural Account of the Unemployment Fund were as follow:

Contributions (net) from Employers and Employed Persons (18 months) 1,560,000
Exchequer contribution (18 months) 780,000
Benefit paid (12 months) 370,000
Appropriation for administration (18 months) 290,000
Contributions became payable in respect of the insurance of persons employed in agriculture as from 4th May, 1936, and benefit as from 5th November, 1936. The scheme was extended to include private gardeners as from 1st February, 1937.
