HC Deb 01 November 1937 vol 328 c539
51. Mr. Thorne

asked the Postmaster-General whether he can give the House any information in connection with an accident at Liverpool Street station on Thursday night, when a man stumbled over a railing and fell down a hole into the long steel-lined letter chute at the Post Office tube station underneath Liverpool Street station?

Major Tryon

An accident occurred, as stated by the hon. Member, but I am glad to be informed that it was not attended by serious consequences. The guard rails surrounding the aperture in the platform were in their proper position. During II years there has been no previous mishap, but I propose, in view of this occurrence, to consider, in consultation with the railway company, whether any additional safeguards are possible.

Mr. Samuel

Was the man injured in any way, or did he escape without a postmark?

Major Tryon

It was a very unfortunate occurrence, but, I am glad to say that as far as we know, he did not suffer serious injury.
