HC Deb 31 May 1937 vol 324 cc663-4
30. Colonel Goodman

asked the Postmaster-General between what hours women operators in 7.he London telephone district are required to work; and whether he has any intention of revising these hours of duty in order to relieve them from late evening attendance?

Major Tryon

The normal period within which women operators are required to work in the London telephone district is between 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. For some years past all new entrants to the class have accepted liability for service up to II p.m., and in a small number of exchanges they are employed until 10.30 p.m. The question of the best means of providing the evening hours of duty is under consideration.
