§ 31. Mr. Dayasked the Postmaster-General to what extent depositors in the Savings Bank have made use of the facilities granted to them to use crossed warrants for making payments to third parties; and what steps the Post Office have taken to popularise this concession to depositors?
§ Major TryonDuring the year ended 31st of December, 1936, some 288,000 crossed warrants drawn in favour of third parties were issued to depositors in the Post Office Savings Bank. The form of notice used by a depositor when making an application to the Chief Office for a withdrawal gives him the option of obtaining repayment by means of a third-party crossed warrant, and attention is directed to the facility in the Post Office Guide and elsewhere in literature issued by the Savings Bank.
§ Mr. DayWill the right hon. Gentleman consider whether some special steps cannot be taken to inform depositors without their having to refer 10 the Post Office Guide?
§ Major TryonIf the hon. Member will look at the latter part of my answer, he will see that we art doing what we can to inform depositors.
§ Mr. Garro JonesCan we have an assurance that no publicity will be given to any facilities enjoyed by Savings Bank depositors if it will adversely affect the interests of the joint stock banks?
