HC Deb 26 May 1937 vol 324 c275
44. Mr. Daggar

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that in some urban areas in South Wales and Mon-mouthshire, as a result of a reduction in the rates, rents have been correspondingly reduced and that the Unemployment Assistance Board, through its local officers, have made reductions in the allowances to the unemployed; that in some instances where rents have been reduced by 3½d. per week allowances have been reduced by 6d. per week; and will he take steps to amend the regulations in such a manner as to render impossible such treatment of the unemployed?

Commander Sir Archibald Southby (Lord of the Treasury)

I have been asked to reply. The Unemployment Assistance Board inform my right hon. Friend that they are not aware of these cases, and if the hon. Member will be good enough to let my right hon. Friend have particulars of the cases to which he refers, inquiry will be made.
