asked the Minister of Health whether he is now in a position to give the terms of reference and the personnel of the Inter-departmental Committee on Abortion, the decision to appoint which by the Secretary of State for the Home Department and himself was announced when the recent report on maternal mortality was issued?

Yes, Sir. The terms of reference of the committee are: To inquire into the prevalence of abortion, and the present law relating thereto, and to consider what steps can be taken by more effective enforcement of the law or otherwise to secure the reduction of maternal mortality and morbidity arising from this cause. The Members of the committee will be:

  • Lady Ruth Balfour.
  • Sir Comyns Berkeley.
  • Mr. H. A. de Montmorency.
  • Dr. T. Watts Eden.
