HC Deb 25 March 1937 vol 321 c3049
4. Mr. C. Wilson

asked the Minister of Labour whether, seeing that his Department publishes monthly figures as to employment in some of the principal industries, it would be possible to use these figures in such a way as to enable a quarterly or annual statement of the proportions engaged in each industry per 10,000 of the population to be published, and thus show the general trend of occupations more accurately than when the only available figures are those of the Census, which apply to one day only at Io-year intervals?

Mr. E. Brown

Figures are annually compiled by my Department to show the changes in the numbers of insured persons employed in each group of industries. These figures relate to July, and are normally published in the Ministry of Labour Gazette for November. They are necessarily less comprehensive than the Census returns, which relate to the whole population.
