HC Deb 23 March 1937 vol 321 c2750
57. Mr. T. Smith

asked the Minister of Labour the names and number, and percentage of unemployment of areas in Yorkshire, whose weight of unemployment is as high as those inside the Special Areas Act?

Mr. E. Brown

Owing to the wide variation in the percentages of unemployment in the Special Areas it is not possible to make such a comparison except by taking the average rate of unemployment which I think would be misleading. The percentages of unemployment for practically every Employment Exchange area are given in the Local Unemployment Index of which there is a copy in the Library. If I can help the hon. Member in any particular I will gladly do so.
