HC Deb 23 March 1937 vol 321 cc2750-1
58. Mr. Daggar

asked the Minister of Labour the amounts of money paid out each year under the several Unemployment Acts in unemployment benefit, transitional payments, Unemployment Assistance Board allowances, etc., since the commencement of such payments in South Wales and Monmouthshire, also similar payments made in the special areas in South Wales and Monmouthshire?

Mr. E. Brown

I am having the available information extracted, and will circulate a statement in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

59. Mr. Daggar

asked the Minister of Labour the number and names of the Special Areas in South Wales and Monmouthshire; also the number of unemployed persons and percentage of unemployment in each area, together with the percentage and number of persons unemployed in the United Kingdom?

Mr. Brown

A list of the Special Areas in South Wales and Monmouthshire is given in the First Schedule to the Special Areas (Development and Improvement) Act, 1934. For the reasons given in the reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Belfast, South (Mr. W. John Stewart) on 22nd February, 1937, it is not possible to give figures of unemployment in respect of each of those areas, but I am having such information extracted as is available and will circulate a statement in the OFFICIAL REPORT.
