HC Deb 23 March 1937 vol 321 c2758
79. Mr. Kimball

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the Castle Donington Rural District Council has served clearance orders on owners of cottages in that district without giving them any opportunity of considering schemes for reconditioning; and, in view of his expressed opinion that the pro visions of the Housing Acts should be considered sympathetically, will he order an inquiry?

Sir K. Wood

Seven clearance orders made by the rural district council affecting 49 houses have been submitted to me for confirmation, and in accordance with my usual practice I shall direct one of my inspectors to hold a local inquiry. My decision on the orders will be given only after careful consideration of all the evidence, including offers by owners to recondition their property, and of the report of my inspector on the inquiry and on his personal inspection of the property following the inquiry.
