HC Deb 16 March 1937 vol 321 cc1840-1
34. Mr. McGovern

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the number of motor refreshment-vans licensed by Glasgow magistrates; the streets where they are situated; and the hours during which they are permitted to serve the public?

Mr. Elliot

I am informed that there are nine night coffee stalls operating in the city of Glasgow under permits granted by the magistrates and that the hours are from 11 p.m. until 3 a.m. in six cases and from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. in the other three. I am sending the hon. Member a list of the streets in which they are situated.

Mr. McGovern

Is this a local police matter and subject to the magistrates, or has the right hon. Gentleman any power at all in regard to it?

Mr. Elliot

The magistrates exercise their powers under the common law to grant or refuse these permits.

Mr. Gallacher

If the right hon. Gentleman is preparing a list of the cafe bars which exist in Glasgow, will he also prepare a list of the milk bars?
