HC Deb 15 March 1937 vol 321 c1631
81. Mr. Thorne

asked the Minister of Labour whether the Government, in giving grants to assist the trading estates in the distressed areas, are insisting that trade union wages and conditions are observed by all employers receiving these grants?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead)

No, Sir. I should point out that under the Special Areas Act, financial assistance is given only to the trading estates and not to the firms operating factories on their estates.
