HC Deb 15 March 1937 vol 321 cc1630-1
53. Viscountess Astor

asked the Minister of Agriculture what measures he proposes to take to provide some alleviation for share fishermen during periods of unemployment, in view of the fact that the Unemployment Insurance Statutory Committee has reported against their being admitted to the unemployment insurance scheme but in favour of some other means of help being provided to meet their particular needs?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

I am considering the matter in consultation with my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland, but I am not at present in a position to make any statement.

Viscountess Astor

Does my right hon. Friend realise that unless something is done pretty soon a great many of these men will cease to pursue their calling, which will be a great loss to the country in the case of a war?

Mr. Morrison

I think I am aware of all the relevant considerations.

Viscountess Astor

I am not sure of that.

Mr. George Griffiths

Can we have collective security this time?
