HC Deb 15 March 1937 vol 321 cc1638-9
70. Mr. David Adams

asked the Minister of Health whether it is intended to make the scheme for the provision of cheap milk for expectant and nursing mothers and children under school age general throughout the country; and whether its application for the six summer months only will be extended to the whole year in future?

Mr. R. S. Hudson

It is the intention of the Milk Marketing Board and the Commissioner for the Special Areas that the schemes which have been in operation in Rhondda since 17th July, 1936, and in Jarrow since 1st January, 1937, should run until 3oth September, 1937, but before that date the board and the Commissioner will consider the results with a view to a decision on the future of the schemes.

Miss Rathbone

In view of the well-known success of both the schemes named and of the fact that one has been going on for 14 months, is it not about time the Ministry took further steps?
