HC Deb 15 March 1937 vol 321 cc1627-8
48. Mr. Thurtle

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the changed European situation since the project was last considered, he will have the question of the Channel Tunnel reviewed?

The Prime Minister

It is not considered that there is any change in the European situation which would justify any alteration in the attitude taken by His Majesty's Government in relation to the Channel Tunnel from that adopted when the project was last considered. The answer to the last part of the question is, therefore, in the negative.

Mr. Thurtle

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether the Committee of Imperial Defence has considered this question at all since it took an adverse decision in 1930?

The Prime Minister

I should require notice of that question.
