HC Deb 11 March 1937 vol 321 c1344
Mr. Henderson Stewart

(by Private Notice) asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware of the serious nature of the bus strike in Scotland and the inconvenience caused thereby to business and private interests throughout the country, and if he is taking any steps to bring about a settlement of the dispute?

Mr. E. Brown

Negotiations are in progress between the company and the trade union concerned on the subject of the wages and conditions to be included in a new agreement. The stoppage of work has taken place without the authority of the union, and as long as it continues it is clear that negotiations in accordance with constitutional procedure cannot take place. In the circumstances there is no action that I can usefully take.
