HC Deb 04 March 1937 vol 321 c535
49. Mr. Kelly

asked the Minister of Health whether the official arbitrator has given his award of the price to be paid for the 10.59 acres in the centre of East Grinstead which is being acquired by the council for a recreation ground; if so, what the award was; whether he is aware that the owner claimed £11,852, which included compensation for the loss of potential water customers, the land having been already piped for water as a prospective building site; how the arbitrator dealt with that matter; and what has been the assessment of this land for purposes of Schedule A of the Income Tax?

Sir K. Wood

I am informed that the official arbitrator has not yet made his award. I have no information regarding the remaining parts of the question.

Lieut.-Colonel Clarke

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the East Grinstead Urban District Council have satisfactorily settled the price with the owners, and that they have no wish for the matter to go to arbitration?
