HC Deb 04 March 1937 vol 321 c540
62. Mr. Hannah

asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether his attention has been called to the fact that the Civil Service examinations include scarcely any questions on Scottish history; and whether he will take steps to do justice in this respect to the Northern Kingdom?

Lieut.-Colonel Colville

The Civil Service Commissioners are responsible for the questions set at examinations for entry into the Civil Service. I am asking the Commissioners to look into the point raised by my hon. Friend, and I will communicate with him when they have done so.

Mr. Macquisten

Is it not the case that the examiners are too ignorant to know how to put questions?

Mr. Hicks

Is there any Scottish history?

Lieut.-Colonel Colville

Has the hon. Member never heard of Bruce and the spider?
