HC Deb 02 March 1937 vol 321 c150
7. Mr. Westwood

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has now had time to consider the report of the Morison Committee on the Marriage Laws of Scotland and if he proposes to bring in any measure to give effect to the recommendations this Session; and, if so, will he before such proposed legislation is framed receive representations from, and have consultations with, the representatives of the Salvation Army with a view to that religious organisation being added to the list referred to on page 15 of the report who are recommended to receive power to proclaim a marriage and to issue banns of marriage?

Mr. Elliot

I am not yet in a position to add anything to the reply which I gave on 28th January last to a similar question by the hon. Member for Dunbartonshire (Mr. Cassells). As regards the second part of the question, I should be glad to consider any representations by religious or other organisations regarding the committee's recommendations.
