§ Mr. BernaysYes, Sir. The request was made some months ago, and the matters in issue were fully discussed between representatives of the council and officers of my Department, but it did not appear that the case was one in which any useful purpose could be served by such a visit. The matter in dispute is one which can be settled only by the courts, and is open either to the person aggrieved or to the local authority to take action, but my right hon. Friend understands that the local authority are not satisfied that the complaint can be substantiated.
