HC Deb 29 June 1937 vol 325 cc1767-8
5. Sir Nicholas Grattan-Doyle

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he will notify the Australian Commonwealth Treasurer that the recent successful repatriation by Argentina of her external loans has minimised future exchange-transfer difficulties and strengthened Argentina's credit; and whether he will recommend the repatriation of a portion of London-issued Australian external debt into Australian internal debt, so that it may be more easy for Australia to convert her external debt to cheaper rates of interest?

The Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs (Mr. Malcolm MacDonald)

The suggestions made by my hon. Friend concern His Majesty's Government in the Commonwealth of Australia. It is no part of my duties to advise that Government as to the financial policy which they should pursue.
